General Information
Midwinter Co. will set a loose stone purchased from us in a setting within two years of the stone purchase. We will only set stones that were purchased from us and never set with another jeweler.
This option is great for clients who want to purchase a loose stone to use for the proposal, and then work together later to design the perfect engagement ring setting!
This is also an option for clients who have found the perfect stone, but do not have an immediate proposal timeline. This allows you to secure the stone, and send it back later when you are ready to set the stone.
Setting Deposit
If you plan on buying a loose stone to be used for a Midwinter Co. piece at a later time, you can select the option when adding it to your cart. This will add a $200 non refundable setting deposit to the stone purchase. All or part of the deposit can be used towards the purchase of the setting when the stone is sent back later.
Timing
Midwinter Co. will set a loose stone purchased from us within two years of the stone purchase.
The full setting deposit can be used towards the purchase of the setting if the stone is sent back within 6 months of purchase.
Half of the setting deposit can be used towards the purchase of the setting if the stone is sent back after 6 months of purchase, but within the two year time frame that Midwinter Co. offers this service.
Shipping the stone to Midwinter Co.
When it is time to send the stone back to Midwinter Co. the client is responsible for any shipping costs. The package must be insured for the full value of the package, with adult signature requirements upon delivery. Midwinter Co. is not responsible for the stone until its safe arrival to the studio.
Upon delivery, the stone will be inspected to confirm that it is the same stone and is free of any damage, or evidence that it was set by another jeweler.
International Clients
At this time, this service is reserved for only US based clients. Any international clients who intend to create a full ring/piece with Midwinter Co. must do so at the initial purchase, and cannot send a loose stone back at a later time to create a piece.
Midwinter Co. reserves the right to refuse use of a loose stone for any reason, up to and including non compliance of any of the above policies.

Any loose stone purchase is not eligible for a return or exchange, however when a full piece is made, the setting would qualify for the standard exchange policy provided to the purchase type. The stone itself would still be inelligible for a return/exchange.
Loose Stone Warranty
When you purchase the loose stone initially, there is no warranty on the purchase/loose stone.
Setting Warranty
After we have created a complete piece, the purchase would be entitled to its standard complimentary warranty. The warranty is based on the purchase price of the whole piece and begins the day you receive the piece.

Midwinter Co. offers this option for clients who want to purchase a loose stone without the purchase of a Midwinter Co. setting. This is for clients who want to take one of our stones to a local or family jeweler. Midwinter Co. is not responsible for the stone once it leaves our care. We cannot recommend any jewelers for outside use and do not work with any outside materials.
General Policies
We will ship any loose stone purchases within 1-3 business days. There is a limit of 2 loose stones per client purchased without a Midwinter Co. setting.
